The King is Dead…

Posted in Music on July 5, 2009 by Kat in NY

…Long Live the King.

Unexpected and yet not. Could you have pictured him an old man?

I think the saddest thing I have read about this (and there are many of them) is that the only reason he wanted to do the last tour was so his kids (born after things got weird and he became a punchline) could see him perform. To see what made their father great, before he became more famous for things other than his music.

Oh yes…

Shallow:  So pretty to look at. Song soooo awesome….and oh so pretty to look at…

By Request – Songs of 1981

Posted in Music, Thing I do When I am Bored on October 17, 2008 by Kat in NY

Same game, but since it was decided that the songs of 1999 were pretty crappy, I’m using songs from 1981, aka the year I was born. Also instead on highlighting the songs I’d rather but a pen through my eardrum then hear again, I’ll be using strikethrough, as wordpress’ visual editor is picky and I don’t feel like manually editing html tags again.

Human Touch
You and me we were the pretenders
We let it all slip away
In the end what you don’t surrender
Well the world just strips away

Girl, ain’t no kindness in the face of strangers
Ain’t gonna find no miracles here
Well you can wait on your blesses my darlin’
But I got a deal for you right here

I ain’t lookin’ for praise or pity
I ain’t comin’ ’round searchin’ for a crutch
I just want someone to talk to
And a little of that Human Touch
Just a little of that Human Touch

Ain’t no mercy on the streets of this town
Ain’t no bread from heavenly skies
Ain’t nobody drawin’ wine from this blood
It’s just you and me tonight

Tell me, in a world without pity
Do you think what I’m askin’s too much
I just want something to hold on to
And a little of that Human Touch
Just a little of that Human Touch

Oh girl that feeling of safety you prize
Well it comes at a hard hard price
You can’t shut off the risk and the pain
Without losin’ the love that remains
We’re all riders on this train

So you’ve been broken and you’ve been hurt
Show me somebody who ain’t
Yeah, I know I ain’t nobody’s bargain
But, hell, a little touchup
and a little paint…

You might need somethin’ to hold on to
When all the answers, they don’t amount to much
Somebody that you could just to talk to
And a little of that Human Touch

Baby, in a world without pity
Do you think what I’m askin’s too much
I just want to feel you in my arms
Share a little of that Human Touch
Feel a little of that Human Touch
Give me a little of that Human Touch

Muppet Geek Manifesto:

I remember exactly where I was when my mom told be Jim Henson died (Pepe’s Pizza, after school, Glendale NY May 1990). I had read about his memorial service on Wikipedia a while back, and this week I found a few clips from it while looking for something else. I managed to keep my shit together until the very end of this second clip

There are others. The one involving Big Bird/Carrol Spinney barely getting through “Bein’ Green” is a tough one.

One of my most favorite things ever:

Which is on this, which you should buy immediately:
